Airlangga Invites Sharp and Nokia to Increase Investment in Indonesia

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Japanese electronics company, Sharp Corporation is committed to increase investment in Indonesia. This is the result of a meeting between the Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto with the President and CEO of Sharp Corp. Tai Jeng Wu in Jakarta, Monday (11/6).

"They see Indonesia as a big potential market and can become a manufacturing base to increase its product competitiveness to meet the needs of domestic and global markets," said Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation and Electronic Equipment (ILMATE) Harjanto in Jakarta, Wednesday (13 / 6/2018).

Ministry of Industry welcomes the positive plan of additional investment and hopes to be realized quickly and improve partnerships with local component industry.

"In addition to Sharp, as many as 24 cellular (mobile) component industries from China are partnering with Xiaomi, have also explored the location of industries in Batam Island to invest and support the development of mobile phone industry in the country," he added.

Some time ago, Ministry also met with representatives from Nokia mobile phone company, namely HMD Global Chairman, Sam Chin and Vice President of HMD Global, James Rutherfoord.

The results of this meeting, among others, the Nokia will change its business model by involving local partners including in Indonesia in an effort to develop a global mobile phone industry.

"The development of mobile phone business today is very rapidly changing trend, so with the strategy, Nokia targets will be able to control about 10 percent market share in Indonesia," said Harjanto.

Kemenperin will always support the steps undertaken by Nokia is at once invites to increase investment in Indonesia.

Based on Kemenperin data, there are currently 30 mobile phone and tablet computer industry industries in the country, including PCBA, adapter (travel charger), earphone, USB cable, battery chasing, lithium battery cell, lithium battery raw material, and carton box, manual box, and warranty card.

Meanwhile, there are three mobile phone industries in the country that already have surface mount technology (SMT) technology, namely PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia, PT Satnusa Persada and PT Oksha Teknologi Indonesia.
