INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta- The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) stated that Sweetened Milk (SKM) is milk and safe for consumption, although it is different from sweetened condensed Cream This is followed by the information circulating SKM only Contains sugar.
"Sweetened condensed milk is a product that contains milk, and there is also a sweetened condensed cream that includes milk but the milk content is smaller than in sweetened condensed milk," said Director of High Risk Food Supervision and New Technology BPOM, Tetty Helfery Sihombing, through a press release received , Sunday (7/15/2018)
Tetty says that sweetened condensed cream can contain both cream and milk. In Regulation Head (Perka) BPOM number 21/2016 mentions that there are nine types that fall into the sub-category of condensed milk. Like, evaporated milk, evaporated skimmed milk, evaporated vegetable fat milk, sweetened condensed milk, sweetened condensed milk vegetable fat, sweetened condensed milk, sweetened condensed cream, sweetened condensed cream, and khoa.
The beginning of the appearance of sweetened condensed milk is required to contain milk content. This is further clarified by BPOM Regulation number 21 of 2016 which details the definition of sweetened condensed milk.
In the beleid it is explained that, sweetened condensed milk is a condensed liquid milk product obtained by removing some water from a mixture of milk and sugar until it reaches a certain level of density or is the result of reconstitution of milk powder with the addition of sugar, with or without the addition of other ingredients.
Especially for sweetened condensed milk made from cow's milk with a mixture of sugar and water, has a milk solids range of 20 percent.
In addition to these solids there are also proteins, vitamins, minerals, and fats. As for, the basic characteristics of sweetened condensed milk have a milk fat content of not less than 8 percent and protein content of not less than 6.5 percent (for plain).
While Head of POM RI Penny Lukito confirmed that sweetened condensed milk products are milk-containing products and safe for consumption.
"Related to sweetened condensed milk is clear, that sweetened condensed milk is a product that contains milk in accordance with the food category," he told media crews in Jakarta recently.
