INDUSTRY.co.id - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) seeks to establish a better research and innovation ecosystem in the country, according to newly inaugurated Head of the BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko.

Laksana made the statement after his inauguration on Wednesday (28/04/2021) at the State Palace in Jakarta.

“We are certainly targeted to consolidate (various Government research and development) as soon as possible, so we can immediately enter a new program to create a better research and innovation ecosystem for this country,” he said, adding that the BRIN must be able to become a facilitator and an enabler for parties outside of the agency, including higher education institutions and the industry.

According to him, the purpose is to develop capacity and competence in carrying out research and innovation, so it will support the economy in the long term.

“At the same time, we have also set a target to bring economic impacts from various research and innovation activities, from various research and development, so they will cause direct economic impacts on the public,” he said.

Laksana also stated that his agency would continue to cooperate with Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as well as Ministry of Investment since the BRIN is targeted to obtain investment in the sector of science and technology, particularly biodiversity.

Concerning investment in biodiversity science and technology, he pointed out that Indonesia has natural resource potentials that can still be utilized.

“Indonesia has natural resources with potentials that have not been exploited yet,” he remarked.
