INDUSTRY.co.id - Movement of logistics transport via sea toll road has dramatically increased by about 70 percent during the period of mudik (Eid homecoming period) ban, according to Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.

“Not only has logistics transport via sea-toll to Eastern Indonesia increased, but the capacity of the return transport from Eastern Indonesia to Western Indonesia has also increased about 30 percent,” Budi said during an inspection at Tanjung Priok port, Tuesday (11/05).

According to the Minister, international sea logistics transportation has also increased by about six percent compared to that in the beginning of 2020 before COVID-19 pandemic, adding that logistics transportation is important to boost Indonesia’s economic growth.

Budi also ensured that despite the mudik ban period from 6 May to 17 May 2021, the logistics transportation service will continue to operate.

“Today I inspected Soekarno – Hatta International airport and Tanjung Priok port to ensure that the Government will still provide excellent service for logistics transportation sector during the mudik ban period,” he said.

On that occasion, the Minister also expressed appreciation for the good coordination among state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, airlines, the COVID-19 National Task Force, and the Port Health Authority (KKP) so that the process of documents checking to obtain transport permission can run professionally.

Furthermore, Budi said that during this year’s mudik ban, the number of passengers at the airport has significantly decreased by about 90 percent compared to that in the previous weeks that saw 50,000-70,000 passengers per day.

Nonetheless, Budi ordered all stakeholders at the airport to anticipate the peak of return traffic after mudikon  Sunday or Monday this week, adding that strict health protocols, including quarantine procedure, will be applied to departing and arriving passengers.

“We have to ensure the availability of quarantine rooms,” he remarked.
