INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - President Director of PT Sarinah (Persero) GNP Sugiarta Yasa said there was a shift in public spending. Currently, he added, people prefer online shopping rather than have to come to the shopping center.
"We should be proud that our economy is growing well, but it is possible that there is a shift in the way people need to shop online from department stores to online systems," Sugiarta told reporters at state-owned office in Central Jakarta yesterday.
In addition, he also predicted a shift in the priority needs of the community. Initially, people prioritize shopping for clothes to meet daily needs. Now, the public priority is more to the tourism sector.
This shift affects the growth of Sarinah. According to him, now the company only grew about 8 percent. In fact, usually the company's growth reached 15-20 percent. While the overall retail industry growth of about 5-7 percent.
Sugiarta acknowledged the retail industry is having a hard time. "By the end of this year, we expect growth of above 15 percent, we are continuing to try," said Sugiarta.
On the other hand, the company will strive to advance the products of handicrafts, home decor, batik fashion that became the hallmark of Sarinah. "So the people really see that Sarinah can present quality Indonesian products, either for domestic needs or our export," said Sugiarta.
