INDUSTRY.co.id - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Wednesday (05/04/2023), visited two markets in DKI Jakarta, namely Rawamangun Market and Johar Baru Market.
The President's visit to these two markets is to check the availability and prices of basic commodities ahead of Eid in 2023.
"It's approaching Lebaran. The Minister of Trade and I want to first check the stock, then the second is the price," said the President after the inspection.
The President revealed that there were no problems related to the supply of food in the markets he visited. In fact, the price of a number of commodities has decreased.
"Prices have also come down a lot. Eggs went down, chicken went down, chicken meat went down, rice also went down, then onions also went down, the only thing that went up was meat," said the President.
The decline, the President added, was in line with the monitoring of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which recorded deflation.
"According to BPS monitoring, there was indeed deflation. This is good, in the position of going to Eid, but the prices are going down. That's what I see," he said.
The President also hopes that the price reduction will increase people's purchasing power.
“What is clear is that prices have fallen a lot. This is good right there. So that it will strengthen people's purchasing power because the price will go down," he said.
On that occasion, the President also handed over direct cash assistance (BLT) to market traders. Accompanying the President were the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan and Plt. Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
