During the meeting, President Jokowi expressed concern over the current global situation and stated that the expectation for the UN is getting bigger to create world peace.

“Your Excellency, synergy between ASEAN and the UN is needed to maintain peace and to address important issues in the region, including the issue of Myanmar,” President Jokowi said.

“Regarding the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN is once again contributing through ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific which translates into concrete cooperation,” he added.

On the occasion, the Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s leadership and diplomatic efforts in ASEAN and the G20. Guterres also expressed desire to continue to develop cooperation between the UN and Indonesia as well as with ASEAN.
