Indonesian Foreign Minister and OIC Call for Unified Voice to Stop the Crisis in Gaza
INDUSTRY.co.id - New York, USA - The Indonesian Foreign Minister, together with foreign ministers from the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held several meetings in New York (29/11) to discuss efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The meetings were held in conjunction with the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People observed every November 29.
"For this year, all OIC foreign ministers in New York attended the commemoration to show strong support for Palestine. In the commemoration, the President of Indonesia also delivered a written message reiterating Indonesia's support for the struggle of the Palestinian people," said Foreign Minister Retno.
Key Meeting with China and the UN
To follow up on the mandate given by the OIC leaders at the OIC Summit in Riyadh (11/11), OIC foreign ministers met with the Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China (PRC), who currently presides over the UN Security Council in New York.
The meeting agreed on several important points, including the urgency for the international community to ensure the establishment of a safe aid route to Gaza. Furthermore, they reiterated the demand to return to the path of peace through the implementation of international resolutions related to the two-state solution.
Agreement was also reached on efforts to grant legitimate rights to the Palestinian people to establish their own state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Additionally, the foreign ministers emphasised the international community's responsibility to reject selectivity in applying international legal and moral standards. They condemned all forms of Israeli settlements and the forced eviction of Palestinians, including in East Jerusalem.
In the meeting with the UN Secretary-General, the foreign ministers emphasised the urgency of releasing prisoners and delivering humanitarian aid. They also highlighted the protection of civilians, the implementation of international law, and the implementation of UN resolutions related to the two-state solution to ensure legitimate rights for the Palestinian people.
They reiterated the importance of the international community in ensuring a safe humanitarian aid passage to Gaza and rejecting all forms of Israeli settlements and forced evictions of Palestinians.
Meanwhile, in the UN Security Council meeting, Indonesia highlighted the lack of effectiveness of the current humanitarian ceasefire due to its brevity and vulnerability to chaos that could leave the situation in Gaza unchanged in a sustainable manner.
Indonesia emphasised three crucial points. Firstly, the importance of providing humanitarian assistance without hindrance throughout the Gaza Strip with careful monitoring. Secondly, the need to fully respect international law, including international humanitarian law. Finally, the importance of achieving a permanent ceasefire to end all forms of atrocities.
