Foreign Minister Sugiono Meets Palestinian Special Envoy, Affirms Indonesia's Commitment to Palestine
INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono received a visit from the Special Envoy of the President of Palestine Mahmoud Al-Habbash in Jakarta on 17 March 2025. The meeting discussed the latest developments in Palestine and the challenges faced in both Gaza and the West Bank and East Jerusalem including the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasised that Indonesia will continue to be at the forefront in supporting Palestine, both through diplomacy, humanitarian assistance, and support for the reconstruction process of Gaza. ‘Indonesia rejects all efforts to change the demography of Palestine and will continue to play an active role in supporting the Two-State Solution,’ said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
Al-Habbash expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's consistent position in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people. In particular, the Palestinian Authority also expressed its gratitude to the Government and people of Indonesia for the humanitarian assistance provided by Indonesia, especially for the people of Gaza. ‘I hope that cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance can continue to be enhanced through close coordination with the Government of the Palestinian Authority,’ said Al-Habbash.
Minister Sugiono's meeting with the Palestinian Authority also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the deadlock in ceasefire negotiations and the importance of post-war reconstruction. ‘The Indonesian government is working with civil society and philanthropic institutions to send more aid, including the construction of a Mother and Child Hospital in Gaza,’ Minister Sugiono concluded.
The visit of Utsus Palestina Al-Habbash to Indonesia was in order to convey a special message from President Mahmoud Abbas to the President of Indonesia. Some of the Palestinian Uthus' agenda in Indonesia is to meet with the leaders of the MPR RI, DPR RI, religious organisations, as well as the Ramadan agenda at the Istiqlal Mosque on 15-19 March 2025.
