INDUSTRY.co.id - Pangkalpinang - Bangka Belitung Province and Pangkalpinang City have a great role to the Republic of Indonesia in the early days of independence. Bung Karno and Bung Hatta had run the government and led the resistance from Bangka when exiled the Netherlands in the period 1948-1949.
Both were arrested by the Dutch and exiled to Bangka between December 1948 and July 1949. The first President and Vice President were returned to Jogjakarta after the Roem-Royen agreement that recognized Jogjakarta as part of the Republic of Indonesia was signed in May 1949.
The great contribution of Bangka Belitung and Pangkalpinang on the nation's history is reminded by the Chairman of the Indonesian Media Siber Indonesia (SMSI) Teguh Santosa when giving a speech at a dinner at the Pangkalpinang Mayor's office on Wednesday (11/10/2017) which was attended by SMSI Indonesia.
"The strategy of confronting the Netherlands in the Roem-Royen agreement was composed of Bung Karno and Bung Hatta from exile in Bangka. It is right that now Pangkalpinang City uses the tagline of Pangkalpinang Pangkal Kemenangan," said Teguh who is also the Vice Rector of Bung Karno University (UBK).
Teguh encourages SMI cyber media companies to give attention to such historical valuable information in order to foster the love of the nation and state of the Republic of Indonesia.
Teguh Santosa's statement was greeted by a standing ovation of dinner attendants, including Pangkalpinang Regional Secretary Ratmida Dawam who represented Mayor Muhammad Irwansyah on that occasion.
After dinner, Teguh Santosa and entourage the opportunity to visit Taman Sari or Wilhemina Park which is located next to the Mayor's office.
In the middle of the park is a monument called the Monument of the Independence Movement to commemorate the struggle of the Indonesian people, especially Bangka, in defending the independence proclaimed on August 17th 1945.
