INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - PLN's subsidiary, PT Indonesia Power through Suralaya Generating Unit received an award related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK).

LHK Minister Siti Nurbaya handed the award to Director of Development and Business of PT Indonesia Power Adi Supriono in Jakarta, Tuesday (16/1/2018)

Adi Supriono said the award is a form of government recognition of his company's contribution to climate change control efforts in Indonesia, especially in the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

"Suralaya generation is the first generation in Indonesia which voluntarily has implemented the Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system for climate change mitigation action," explained Adi.

"We are rehabilitating boilers and turbine generators in Unit 1 and 2 of Suralaya power plant, and replacing TL lamps into LED lamps," continued Adi.

According to Adi, a reliable MRV system in power plants aims to improve the quality of data on GHG emission reduction.

Other efforts of PLN in emission reduction can be seen from the number of new and renewable energy development such as PLTA, PLTP, PLTB, PLTS, PLT, biomass and other EBT.

The use of HELE (high efficiency, low emission) technologies such as supercritical and ultra-supercritical boilers for coal-fired power plants in Java and Sumatra also proves that PLN is concerned about reducing GHG emissions from power generation.

"In addition to reducing emissions in the form of development of EBT plants, fuel switching, energy efficiency, and a forestation, PLN is also making efforts to reduce emissions through credit carbon mechanisms," said Adi.

Until 2017, he said, PLN can reduce CO2 emissions (in the form of Certified Emission Reduction) through Clean Development Mechanism of 157.550 tons CO2, and 3,721,025 tons of CO2 through Verified Carbon Standard mechanism. (Ant
