Citilink Assess International Flights to Banyuwangi Airport

INDUSTRY.co.id - Banyuwangi - Citilink Indonesia Airlines is reviewing the possibility of opening a direct international flight route to Banyuwangi Airport, East Java.
President Director of Citilink Juliandra Nurtjahjo when meeting Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas in Banyuwangi on Thursday (22/2/2018) said that his side wanted to contribute to move tourism sector in the easternmost region of Java Island.
"We are optimistic to help Banyuwangi bring in tourists, move the local economy," he said.
Beginning in mid-2018, a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia, known as the low-cost carrier, has opened a direct flight route from Jakarta to Banyuwangi once a day.
Juliandra explained that the study related to the opening of international route to Banyuwangi was in line with the government's effort to become Banyuwangi Airport as an international airport. A number of direct routes that want to be explored, among others, from Malaysia.
"We will make the study, I think the prospect is good, there are many objects and tourist attraction in Banyuwangi, besides, it is also close to Bali which is certainly beneficial for the tour package together," he said.
According to Juliandra, the momentum of the annual meeting of the IMF and World Bank in October 2018 in Bali which will be attended by thousands of delegates around the world is an opportunity to prepare various international routes.
In the event, he said, Banyuwangi Airport has been designated as a support airport, some official state delegates from several countries will land at Banyuwangi Airport.
"There are many who support Banyuwangi Airport as an international airport, which shows Banyuwangi has potential, the airport is cool, the terminal is green and unique concept, the first green terminal in Indonesia," he said as quoted by Antara.
Previously, President Director Angkasa Pura II as the manager of Banyuwangi Airport M. Awaluddin said that his side invested Rp400 billion, among others, to extend the runway and expand apron to become an international airport.
In addition, Angkasa Pura has explored cooperation with international airlines, one of them is Jetstar, an Australian airline to open international routes at Banyuwangi Airport.
Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas is grateful for the support of many parties for the progress of Banyuwangi, especially in the tourism sector.
"Citilink has its own segment, for example strong among younger travelers, it will further add many tourists visit to Banyuwangi from Jakarta which become the biggest market of domestic tourists and the second biggest hub of foreign tourists after Bali," said Anas.
