Farmers Complain Gayo Coffee Production Decreases

INDUSTRY.co.id - Takengon - Farmers in Central Aceh District have complained of declining coffee production over the past two years, affecting their economies.
Arman, a farmer in Kampung Bahgie, Bebesen Sub-district on Monday (12/3/2018) said the impact of reduced coffee crops is felt by farmers like him, especially to meet the economic needs of the family.
"In the last two years, coffee production has been declining, with a garden of about one hectare normally producing 60 to 80 cans of coffee once harvest, but now only 20 cans," he said.
Arman explained in the dosage of a can of coffee commonly used by coffee farmers in Gayo contains 3 kilograms of red grain coffee beans.
Asked about the cause of the decline of the crop, the farmer suspected due to weather factors that change.
Another farmer, Inen Usda, who owns a half-hectare garden in the Pantan Terong Kampung Bahgie area, also admitted that the crops in his coffee plantation continued to decline.
It is said; usually coffee garden can produce 40 cans of red seeds in one harvest, but now decreased to 10 cans.
Coffee is a mainstay commodity in Central Aceh District. Almost 80 percent of the people in this area are coffee farmers.
Gayo Coffee has long been a privileged place among coffee lovers of the world. Noted, Arabica Gayo is very popular by consumers in America, Europe, and Japan.
They call gayo coffee a very special and categorized as specialty coffee.
Gayo coffee is known to have a distinctive aroma with a complex flavor (flavor) and a strong (body).
Based on the assessment of coffee taste test results by an American coffee association, the Specialty Coffee Asotiation of America (SCAA) that categorizes coffee points by points above 80 as specialty coffee; then Gayay Coffee has pocketed perfect value.
Many times the results of the test of taste (cupping test) against Gayo coffee, shows the highest value of 86-90 points diangka. The value is enough to crown gayo coffee as the number 1 best coffee in the world. (Ant)
