INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - PT Astra International Tbk over the weekend symbolically handed over donations of 10 units of water tank trucks to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) as part of the Astra For Healthy Indonesia program that contributes socially to the sustainable health sector.

Prijono Sugiarto, President Director of PT Astra International Tbk, symbolically handed over the donation directly to Ginandjar Kartasasmita who served as Daily Executive (Plh) PMI Chairman and witnessed by Jusuf Kalla who served as PMI Chairman.

"This assistance is expected to help PMI when a disaster occurs in an area in providing clean water. The reason is, when disaster strikes, people mostly donate clothes and food, but rarely donate clean water, "said Jusuf Kalla.

To improve its performance, PMI targets to have 100 water tankers by 2019. "Hopefully this assistance from Astra will also strengthen PMI in the emergency response. This is in line with Astra prosperous mission with the nation by giving the best value to our stakeholders, "said Prijono Sugiarto.

In the health sector, Astra cooperates with PMI in donating 20,635 units of glasses to children in disadvantaged, leading and outer areas (3T). In 2014-2017, the donations of glasses have been distributed to the areas of Atambua-East Nusa Tenggara, Nunukan-North Kalimantan, Sabang-Banda Aceh, Entikong-West Kalimantan, Merauke-Papua, Natuna-Riau Islands, and Talaud-North Sulawesi, in addition to Jakarta.

In addition, to support the Government's "Healthy Indonesia" program, one form of implementation of Astra For Healthy Indonesia is through the fostering of 1,638 Posyandu, the collection of 237,121 blood bags, and the free treatment that has helped 132,180 patients.

The Astra Group is also committed to supporting government programs in handling natural disasters. Astra's Search and Rescue personnel (SAR Astra), now numbering 58 personnel, has been dispatched in disaster-related activities under the name of Nurani Astra.

Astra's conscience is not limited to the donation of emergency disaster stage such as the flood of DKI Jakarta and its surroundings, but continues to the rehabilitation and recovery process such as Meulaboh (2004), Padang Pariaman (2009), DI Yogyakarta and Central Java (2011) and Manado (2014) .

Currently, Astra is also developing 72 Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) in 34 provinces that are being developed both in number and concept, towards Sejahtera Village. This activity is aimed to support the strengthening of the healthy paradigm and the Nawacita program of the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, to build Indonesia by strengthening the regions and villages within the framework of the unitary state.

In principle, wherever the Astra installation is located it must provide benefits to the surrounding environment, in accordance with the first point of the philosophy of Catur Dharma Astra, namely "Becoming a Beneficial State and Nation". (Abraham Sihombing)
