INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Indonesia Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) recorded national car sales in the first quarter of 2018 increased 2.9 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
In a discussion entitled "Development of Domestic Market and Increase Motor Vehicle Exports" in Jakarta, Thursday,
Chairman of GAIKINDO, Jongkie D. Sugiarto hopes that this growth can survive for the year-end sales target of 1.1 million units of cars can be achieved.
"This has gone up by almost 3 percent 'year on year' compared to the first three months of last year. If hopefully can be achieved until the end of the year. If in line with economic growth of 5.5 percent, a total of 1.1 million can be achieved," said Jongkie In a discussion entitled "Development of Domestic Market and Increase Motor Vehicle Exports" in Jakarta (12/4/2018).
Based on data GAIKINDO as of January-March 2018, total vehicle sales in January-March 2018 reached 291,920 units or an increase of almost 3 percent over the same period of 283,760 units.
From the data, the highest sales of trucks with loads of more than 24 tons grew 68 percent or from 4,131 units in 2017 to 6,935 units.
Jongkie explained that infrastructure development in some parts of Indonesia would certainly affect the sales of trucks required to transport materials.
Once the infrastructure is completed, he believes that motor vehicle sales in other types of cars will grow along with the existing connectivity.
"This is a road infrastructure built, the proof of truck up 68 percent of sales. Usually if the truck roads, infrastructure everywhere, there are bridges, ports, airports, automatic type 4x2 come up, sedan also rose," he said.
Gaikindo assessed the motor vehicle industry in recent years stagnated.
Motor vehicle sales in 2017 was recorded at 1,079,534 units or just up 1.6 percent compared to the previous year.
