INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Efforts to improve the competitiveness of Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector at the global level is one of the homework that must be done by the stakeholders in this sector.

This is one of the reasons that encourage Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) theme "Driving Indonesia's Oil and Gas Global Competitiveness"
in the implementation of the 42nd IPA Convention and Exhibition 2018 (IPA Convex 2018) to be held on 2-4 May 2018 at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta.

"Convex theme this year is chosen by considering the current condition of the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia, namely the tight competition of global oil and gas investment," said IPA President Ronald Gunawan in his speech during a press conference ahead of the IPA Convex 2018 held at Bimasena Lobby Lounge, The Dharmawangsa Hotel Jakarta, Thursday (12/4/2018).

He said in the Convex 2018 IPA there will be three plenary sessions and one Special session, which will present a number of speakers, both from within and outside the country from the first session on the first day, entitled "Mapping Global Oil and Gas Investment Competitiveness".

Then, the second session in the morning took the topic entitled "How Countries Maintain and Improve Their Global Oil and Gas Investment Competitiveness", and in the afternoon, the third session entitled "Aligning Policies to Achieve Indonesia's Energy Plan". Finally, on the third day of the morning there is a special session that takes the title "Improving Indonesia's Gas Business from Upstream to Downstream".

On the same occasion, Chairman of the Committee or Chairperson IPA Convex 2018, Novie Hernawati, expressed optimism about increasing the competitiveness of upstream oil and gas industry in Indonesia to be more creative, innovative, and competitive.

"At Convex IPA this year, we try to reflect the efforts made by the industry to face the challenges that exist in order to improve the competitiveness of Indonesia's oil and gas at the global level, one of them by applying various innovations and technologies in oil and gas exploration and production activities," he explained.

Especially on technology and innovation, said Novie, on Convex IPA this time there will be a session that discusses the technology, or called technology session. The four topics of the technology are: 1) Governments on Innovation of New Technology Improvement, 2) Impact of Digital Internet of Things in the Upstream Oil and Gas, 3) New Business Model in Gross Split System, and 4) Technology for Decommissioning.

Meanwhile, to illustrate the multiplier effect of oil and gas industry, he added, there will be a dialogue between community leaders from oil and gas producing regions who feel the positive impact of oil and gas industry with the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, at the opening of IPA Convex 2018.

For that reason, according to Novie, Convex 2018 IPA committee really hope President Joko Widodo can attend and dialogue with public figures, and at the same time open the official IPA Convex 2018, Wednesday (2/5/2018). The presence of President Joko Widodo is believed to reinforce the commitment of the Government of Indonesia as one of all stakeholders to improve the competitiveness of Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector.
