INDUSTRY.co.id - Transportation and passenger movements have significantly decreased on the first day of mudik (annual exodus) ban, Thursday (6/5), according to Spokesperson for Ministry of Transportation Adita Irawati.
“Based on transportation control monitoring result, on the first day, the number of transportation and passenger movements on land, sea, air, and railways have decreased significantly compared to that of the period before the ban,” the spokesperson said in Jakarta, Friday (7/5).
In the sector of land transportation, bus passengers reached 10,644 people, a decrease of about 75 percent compared to that of normal days.
Meanwhile, the volume of daily traffic (motorbikes, passenger cars, and large cars) using non-toll national roads heading out of the Greater Jakarta reached more than 68 thousand vehicles, a decrease of around 48 percent compared to that of normal days.
On air transportation, from 12 monitoring airports, there were 270 flight departures, or an 82.7-percent decrease. Meanwhile, the number of passengers reached around 3,856 people, or a 96.2-percent decrease compared to that of normal days.
Then, on the sector of rail transportation, the passenger movements reached 17,220 passengers, a decrease of 71 percent compared to the number of passengers the day before. When compared with the average passenger from 22 April to 5 May, the number of passengers on Thursday fell by 63 percent.
Meanwhile, on sea transportation, for inter-island ports, there are 2,048 passengers, an 88-percent decrease compared to that of normal days from the 51 ports monitored.
“The significant decrease in passenger volume in all modes of transportation indicates that, first, the community has traveled earlier in the pre-mudik phase, or second, the level of community compliance on mudik ban has increased,” Adita said.
Furthermore, Adita stated that the implementation of health protocols in public transportation infrastructure and facilities on the first day went quite well.
The traffic insulation implemented by officers at several points also went well and will continue to be optimized, Adita added.
“We will continue to monitor transportation control during Eid al-Fitr 2021 and ensure that the people’s trips run according to applicable regulations,” Adita said.
