INDUSTRY.co.id - Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah told companies to protect their loading-unloading workers (TKBM) through social security program for workers.

“It’s a high-risk job. Because of that, I think the State needs to be present to ensure protection for all of you,” the Minister said during the Dissemination on Social Security for Loading-Unloading Workers at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, Monday (10/05).

Based on BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Workers Social Security Provider Body) data in May 2021, all of the 2,325 loading-unloading workers at Tanjung Priok Port have registered their participation in the Work Accident Security Program (JKK) and Death Benefit Program (JKM). Some workers have also registered as participants in the Old-Age Benefit Program (JHT).

“What has been implemented at Tanjung Priok Port can become an example for other ports,” Ida said.

To provide optimal social security protection for workers, the Government has enacted Law Number 40 of 2004 on the National Social Security System, Law Number 24 of 2011 on Social Security Administrative Body, and Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation and its derivative rules.

The Job Creation Law will not only increase investment which will also create jobs, but will also strengthen the existing social security system for workers.

“The Government aims for new investments that absorb labor, but the Government also protects those who are already working,” she said.

The Government also launched a new social security program, namely Job Loss Security Program (JKP). Through JKP, workers who are laid off will receive benefits in the form of cash benefits, job training, and job market information.

For the record, President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Anggoro Eko Cahyo also stated that their programs will not only help workers in a time of accident but also provide protection to their families.
