Gov’t Committed to Speeding Up Development in Papua: VP

INDUSTRY.co.id - Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020 on Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua Provinces is part of the Government’s commitment to accelerate development in the Provinces, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has stated.
“Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020 is a manifestation of the Government’s commitment to accelerate welfare development in Papua and West Papua Provinces,” the Vice President said during a virtual meeting with academicians from Cenderawasih University, Tuesday (22/06).
The Vice President explained that the 2021-2022 quick wins to accelerate the welfare of the Papuan people cover the following sectors: First, developing education sector in Papua.
“Support from Cenderawasih University is very much needed, especially in developing more qualified, competent, and excellent Papuan human resources,” the Vice President said.
Second, providing access for Papuan people to health facilities and services.
“It comprises, among others, improving hospitals in seven areas of customary land, developing Papuan infrastructure, strengthening health centers, and sheltering abandoned children,” the Vice President said.
Third, developing mainstay commodities, including tourism areas and business development for the Papuan people. Fourth, providing access to communication and transportation for the people of Papua.
“The main projects are air bridges, network improvement from the East Palapa Ring, Trans Papua, and construction of several depots in economic centers,” the Vice President stated.
Fifth, providing access to electricity across Papua, as well as cooperating with relevant stakeholders in developing new and renewable energy. Sixth, developing Papuan human resources to be able to work in the national industry.
Seventh, developing socio-cultural aspects of Papua. In the meantime, Rector of Cenderawasih University Apolo Safanpo said that the University is ready to support various efforts made by the Government in accelerating development in Papua.
