INDUSTRY.co.id - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (08/10) expressed desire that mangrove rehabilitation model at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park is also to be adopted in other provinces in the country.

According to the President, the mangrove forest that has been planted since 2003 is a pilot rehabilitation ecosystem of mangrove forest that can be utilized as a means of education, tourism, and economic booster.

“It [mangrove rehabilitation] will continue to be carried out in coastal areas in order to restore, to preserve our mangrove forest areas. It also aims to anticipate and mitigate global climate change that happens and will happen,” President Jokowi said.

By planting mangrove trees, the Head of State further said, it is expected to reduce wave energy, protect beaches from abrasion, curb water intrusion, improve the quality of the environment, both in coastal environments and habitats in coastal areas.

On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed hope that mangrove rehabilitation can also improve local community’s economy through increased production of marine products.

Furthermore, the President went on to say that mangrove forest at Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park is planned to be one of the places that will be shown to the leaders of G20 countries.

“This will be one of the venues that we will show to G20 leaders next year,” he remarked.
