District Government in South Sumatra Asked to Participate Develop Sport Tourism

INDUSTRY.co.id - Palembang- The district / city government in South Sumatra is asked to help develop sport tourism, so the development is not only happening in the city of Palembang which already has Jakabaring Sport City Sports Complex.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin in Palembang, Saturday (19/8/217) said, South Sumatra has been declared by the government as a forerunner of sports tourism, so the district / city government should take advantage of this opportunity to raise the potential of their respective regions.

"So far the location of new sports tourism is in Jakabaring Sport City (JSC), try to imagine if every district develops it.No need to complete like JSC, just select some sport only," said Alex who met the media crew on the sidelines of Rally Championship in the Trajectory Tanjung Senai, Ogan Ilir.

He pointed out, that Ogan Ilir began to promote the national scale event by using the Trajectory of Tanjung Senai and Sweet sugar cane plantation..

"If you want natural sports to Pagaralam or Lahat, if this is encouraged and well planned then the purpose of sport tourism can be achieved that is economic empowerment," he said.

South Sumatra became a model of sports-based tourism development in Indonesia because it has an international sport facility.

The development of sports tourism is very much in line with the role of South Sumatra Province as host of the 2018 Asian Games.

Having previously successfully held the 25th SEA Games in 2011, Islamic Solidarity Games 2013, Asean University Games 2014 and several other international arena, now South Sumatra wants to get blessings from tourism.

"Being the host of the Asian Games is actually the target between them, but the real target of how this area is known, if it is known then the investment will come in, tourists will come, and creative industries will grow," said the former Regent of Musi Banyuasin.

He added, to bring investment then a region must be known in advance and South Sumatra has decided the choice that is through sports.

Associated with the development of sports tourism, Alex said Sumsel will make Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) which has 18 international arena as a sports tourism area.

The development of sport tourism has started since hosting the national and international sports event, among them the 25th SEA Games in 2011, Islamic Solidarity Games 2013 and ASEAN University Games 2014.

Earlier Tourism Minister Arief Yahya appreciated the consistency of South Sumatra that developed sport tourism to boost tourist arrivals.

In addition to developing sports tourism, Palembang City also has other tourism potential, namely religious tourism, culinary tours, shopping, historical / heritage.
