Our Ocean, our Action
INDUSTRY.co.id - Between April 28 to 30, the 2025 Our Ocean Conference will be held at BEXCO in Busan, Republic of Korea. The conference is expected to be a milestone event for global action to protect the ocean and the millions of people who depend on it for their livelihoods, food security, and well-being around the world.
The need for coordinated global efforts has never been more urgent: the ocean, covering 70% of the planet, is under unprecedented pressure from the climate crisis and human exploitation, driving biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, with devastating impacts on coastal communities, global food systems, and the blue economy.
The conference’s commitment framework is centered on seven key action areas, tackling a wide range of ocean-related issues:
Climate Change
Marine pollution
Marine protected areas (MPAs)
Maritime security
Sustainable blue economy
Sustainable fisheries
Digital Oceans
A decade of visionary commitments
The 10th edition of the Our Ocean Conference held under the banner of "Our Ocean, Our Action" represents a turning point to reflect on a decade of commitments and achievements for a sustainable ocean future.
Over the last 10 years, the Our Ocean Conference has positioned itself as a catalyst for global ocean action, bringing together governments, international organizations, businesses, NGOs, and academia to promote effective strategies for marine protection.
Through voluntary commitments over the last 10 years, the conference has mobilized over 2,600 commitments valued at over $140 billion, achieving significant advancements through international cooperation by taking practical measures such as:
Establishing MPAs to support the 30 by 30 objective,
Advocating for the ratification of important international treaties like the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ Agreement)
Strengthening efforts to eliminate illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing
Measuring impact: the first comprehensive assessment presented in Busan
In an effort to ensure transparency and accountability, the conference has implemented a voluntary commitment tracking process that monitors progress on pledges. This 10th edition will present the first-ever exhaustive evaluation of commitment implementation since the conference’s launch in 2014.
This landmark report will provide key recommendations for future Our Ocean Conferences and serve as a reference framework for other policy platforms, such as the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC).
The 2025 Our Ocean Conference is more than a gathering—it is a call to action. By working together, we can transform commitments into concrete steps and secure a healthy, thriving ocean for future generations.
