INDUSTRY.co.id - The Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab) through the Translator Development Center (Pusbinter) organizes Translator Functional Education and Training (Training) for Class II of 2023 Translator Functional Positions. This online training will be held from 20 February to 3 March 2023.

In his remarks, Setkab Deputy for Administration (Demin), Farid Utomo emphasized that as a JFP advisory agency, Setkab annually organizes functional training for translators who have just taken on the position of translators through their first appointment.

"Every translator is required to attend functional training and furthermore translators are expected to attend various technical training according to the needs of each agency to improve the competence of translators," said Demin Setkab in his written remarks delivered by the Head of Pusbinter Sri Wahyu Utami, when opening the Training, Monday (20 /02/2023).

According to him, functional training aims to improve the competence of translators so they can produce appropriate, accurate, and acceptable translations to contribute to the success of government programs.

"Functional training is an effort to increase the competence of translators so that they can produce appropriate, accurate and acceptable translation works in order to help the success of government programs to promote the potential of the Indonesian nation, as well as build mutually beneficial cooperation with friendly countries and development partners, and disseminate various regulations that are important for foreign investors to know," Farid explained.

To fulfill this objective, Demin explained that the training materials had been adapted to the job descriptions of translator positions which included written translation tasks, oral translation, preparation of translation materials, and transliteration of ancient manuscripts/archives and inscriptions and adapted to real needs in the field.

Furthermore, Demin ensured that Cabinet Secretariat is committed to continuing to provide comprehensive guidance to translators both through various technical trainings, empowering translators in international activities, and various collaborations with ministries/agencies.

“In 2022, translators have participated in the international Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction [GDPRR] activities, the G20 Summit, and regional government conferences throughout East Asia in Bandung, West Java. We hope that the translators will also participate in the 2023 ASEAN Summit, the 2023 Indonesia Trade Expo, and a number of other international activities in the coming years," said Demin.

Closing his remarks, Farid hoped that the Translator Functional Officers (PFP) could understand and gain knowledge about the concept of translation to support the duties and functions of their respective ministries/agencies.

"By participating in functional training, we hope that translators will regain their understanding and/or gain knowledge about the concept of translation in order to form reliable and qualified translators in order to support the duties and functions of their respective ministries/agencies," he concluded.

The JFP Functional Training Batch II was attended by 25 PFPs from a number of government agencies, both central and regional. The teachers are expert translators from the International Language Institute (LBI) of the University of Indonesia (UI).
