The Indonesian Team Outstanding Achievement at the Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC)

INDUSTRY.co.id - Perth, Australia - In the Mining Emergency Response Competition (MERC) held at Langley Park, Perth (24-26/11), the INA Garuda Mine Rescue Team achieved remarkable success for Indonesia. The INA Garuda Mine Rescue Team secured 1st place in the Vertical Rescue category, Best Team Spirit, 2nd place in the Hazardous Materials category, and 3rd place in the Firefighting and Breathing Apparatus category.

During a meeting at the Indonesian Consulate General in Perth on November 27, the Consul General expressed appreciation and pride for the team's achievements in this prestigious mining safety championship, which has been held for 14 years in Perth and attended by numerous teams representing major companies from developed countries such as Rio Tinto, BHP, Newmont, and Regis Resources.

The 2023 MERC marked the debut participation of the INA Garuda Mine Rescue Team, with its members predominantly from the Indonesian Association of Mining and Energy Rescuer Professionals (PERTAPINDO). The Team's Leader expressed pride in this accomplishment, highlighting the team's pride in enhancing Indonesia's reputation and promoting the capabilities of Indonesian human resources in safety and emergency response.

As a non-profit competition, MERC provides world-class emergency rescue training and skill development opportunities for volunteer rescue teams in the mining industry. The teams competed in a series of realistic scenarios, including road rescue, hazardous material response, vertical rescue, firefighting, confined space rescue, emergency team readiness, and first aid.
