INDUSTRY.co.id - Lima, Peru - In an effort to enhance Indonesia's diplomatic relations with Peru, the Indonesian Embassy in Lima held a diplomatic reception. This event also celebrated the 78th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day and 48 years of Indonesia-Peru Diplomatic Relations (27/11). The event was attended by 250 invited guests consisting of members of the Peruvian Congress, high-ranking officials of Peruvian ministries/institutions, local government officials, ambassadors of neighbouring countries and members of the diplomatic corps, business community, academics, Indonesianists and Friends of Indonesia. The Guest of Honours were Acting Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ambassador Elmer José Schialer Salcedo and Vice Minister for Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, Mrs Teresa Stella Mera Gómez.

"As Indonesia's strategic partner in the South American region, Indonesia and Peru have worked together to promote people-to-people contacts in the political, economic and cultural fields. Indonesia and Peru have established diplomatic relations since 1975, and this year marks 48 years of good relations between the two countries. I am pleased to say that the bilateral relationship between Indonesia is a strong and fruitful one. The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo had a bilateral meeting with the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte in San Francisco on 16 November 2023," Ambassador Ricky Suhendar said.

On this occasion, Ambassador Ricky also underlined the development of cooperation between Indonesia and Peru which continues to intensify, with a focus on economic and trade cooperation. Peru is a strategic partner for Indonesia and is Indonesia's 4th largest trading partner in South America. The balance of trade between Indonesia and Peru has shown constant growth in the last five years, making Peru an important market for Indonesian products, including motorised vehicles and textile products.

Indonesian cultural performances were also presented through angklung performances by DWP administrators and staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, who performed the folk song El Condor Pasa by Peruvian composer. The performance of Tabal Gempita Dance from Riau Islands performed by four Peruvian dancers also captivated the invited guests and gave an overview of the diversity of Indonesian culture.

To showcase Indonesia's gastronomic diversity, the Indonesian Embassy in Lima also served a variety of Indonesian specialities, such as nasi goreng (fried rice), mie goreng (fried noodles), sate ayam (chicken satay), semur daging (meat stew), risoles rogut, martabak daging (fried egg crepe filled with meat), kroket tuna (tuna croquettes), dadar gulung (green pancake roll stuffed with grated coconut & palm sugar), lapis legit (thousand-layer cake), talam ubi (steamed purple sweet potato cake with coconut milk) and putu ayu (Indonesian steamed cake with coconut). While enjoying Indonesia's gastronomic diversity, guests also watched a video on "Indonesia's Achievement of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023" and Indonesia's top tourist destinations that we received from the centre.
