INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Head of Data, Information and Public Relations Agency of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said public preparedness in facing the possibility of tsunami has been increasing.

"People's preparedness is getting better, when the earthquake happens, they immediately do evacuation to find a higher place, if there is panic, it is natural," Sutopo said in Jakarta on Friday.

Although responses and public preparedness have been increasing, Sutopo considers that there are still some problems encountered, especially in the event of anticipating the possibility of a tsunami.

Sutopo also said that what needs to be addressed is how to deliver the warning as soon as possible to the community to prepare for the possibility of a tsunami.

"If given a warning, the people have to run immediately and know where to go, but it is true that it is in accordance with the standard operational procedures, siren warning is still very little," he said.

Therefore, Sutopo said in addition to continuing to socialize and understanding to the community against the possible preparedness of the tsunami, and other disasters, another thing to think about is preparing early warning facilities and infrastructure.

"The possibility of a tsunami occurs in the South of Sumatra and Java, and the community's preparedness in the area is increasing, but the early warning system is still limited," he said.
