Palm Oil Export Demand Increases in 2017

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - During 2017, almost all of the major export destinations of Indonesian palm oil recorded an increase in demand for palm oil.
India recorded a significant increase in demand because in 2017, demand for palm oil to India was 7.63 million tons, up 32% compared to 2016 with total demand of 5.78 million tons.
Referring to the report of Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI), exports to African countries also recorded a 50% increase, reaching 2.29 million tons in 2017 while the previous year was only about 1.52 million tons.
"The increase in demand for palm oil is followed by China about 16 percent or from 3.23 million tons in 2016 to 3.73 million tons in 2017," said Secretary General of GAPKI, Togar Sitanggang.
EU countries rose 15% (2016: 4.37 tons, 2017: 5.03 million tons), Pakistan rose 7% (2016: 2.07 million tons, 2017: 2.21 million tons), the United States rose 9% (2016: 1.08 million tons, 2017: 1.18 million tons), Bangladesh up 36% (2016: 922.85 thousand tons, 2017: 1.26 million tons) and Middle East countries up 7% (2016: 1.98 million tons, 2017: 2.12 million tons).
