Minister of Commerce Enggar Ensures Rice Import Does Not Hurt Farmers

INDUSTRY.co.id - Cirebon - Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita said rice imports are certainly not harmful to farmers, because later Bulog will absorb their grain when it is considered necessary.
"Farmers will never be harmed (the import of rice)," Enggar said during a visit at Pasar Pagi Kota Cirebon, yesterday.
According to Enggar, the existence of import policy is one way to strengthen Government stock, because it is much needed.
For that, he said, to all parties not to oppose the existence of rice import policy with the farmers, because this is to strengthen the national stock.
"So imports should not be disputed with farmers, because the imports are to strengthen the stock," he said.
Enggar added later when there is a stock of grain from farmers, Bulog will absorb in accordance with existing provisions.
Meanwhile, President Director of Bulog, Djarot Kusumayakti, said that Bulog has been asked to absorb any grain produced by farmers if the price falls.
"Bulog will be ready to guard and if the price falls insaallah Bulog will be any buffer will be taken, so the price does not fall," he said.
"The point is never to be disputed that the imports hurt the farmers," Djarot said.
