It turns out not only to be a culinary archipelago, banana kepok also have the potential to export and able to gain foreign exchange for the country. Agricultural Quarantine Agency as a government institution that facilitates the export of agricultural products always helps accelerate the export of agricultural products. Various easiness of export services continues to be done, as well as on banana kepok from North Sumatra.
According to the data of the First Class Agricultural Quarantine Station Tanjung Balai Asahan, in 2017 it was recorded 1,879 tons more banana kepok destination Malaysia with the frequency of delivery 262 times.
"Today we check 17.4 tons of banana kepok which will be sent to Malaysia", said Azhar, Head of Quarantine of Tanjung Balai Asahan, Thursday (28/3/2018).
Before being sent, quarantine officers ensure that the carrier or commodity meets the phytosanitary requirements of the destination country. "We check the documents, check the physical and make sure it is free of pests", he explained.
As is known, this type of banana is more delicious if processed into various ready-to-eat foods, such as fried bananas, banana chips and banana compote. In addition to containing various kinds of gizo substances such as fiber, potassium, vitamin C and B6, banana kepok plant can also grow throughout the year. Of course this is very profitable.
According to Azhar, quarantine in cooperation with the relevant agriculture service especially in the area of Tanjung Balai Asahan will continue to encourage and accelerate the export of agricultural products.
