BPS: The Great Harvest Affects Inflation April 2018

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Yunita Rusanti said that last month's harvest affected the inflation rate of April 2018, which was recorded at 0.1 percent.

"In general, inflation in April is still influenced by the highway that last month has been seen," said Yunita during a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday (02/05/2018)

In April, the expenditure group experienced a decline in index of foodstuffs by 0.26 percent. Reduced commodities, such as rice, fresh fish, red peppers, spinach, kale, cantaloupe, and cayenne pepper.

Meanwhile, most of the expenditure group index where the highest increase in the clothing group was 0.29 percent, followed by the food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0.24 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group 0.16 percent, the health group by 0.22 percent, the education, recreation and sports group by 0.04 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services group 0.19 percent.

"Growing inflation is 0.29 percent, 0.01 percent is dominated by gold jewelry which contributes 0.01 percent inflation, so it dominates for clothing," Yunita said.

Some commodities that experienced price increases in April 2018 include red onions, chicken meat, gasoline, home contract rates, chicken eggs, vegetable tomatoes, oranges, bananas, filter clove cigarettes, and gold jewelry.

In April 2018 most expenditure groups contributed to inflation, ie the finished food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0.05 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.04 percent, clothing by 0.02 percent, the health group by 0.01 percent, and the transport, communication and financial services group by 0.03 percent.

Expenditure groups contributing to deflation, i.e. foodstuffs by 0.05 percent while the education, recreation and sports groups do not contribute or contribute to national inflation.

Of 82 cities, 54 cities experienced inflation and 28 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Merauke at 1.32 percent with the CPI and the lowest occurring in Padang and Kudus respectively by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Tual at 2.26 percent and the lowest occurred in Medan, Bandar Lampung and Tegal respectively by 0.01 percent.

The core component in April 2018 experienced inflation of 0.15 percent. The core inflation rate of the calendar year (January-April) 2018 experienced inflation of 0.91 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate of core components (April 2018 to April 2017) of 2.69 percent.
