Sleman - Residents on the slopes of Mount Merapi in Donokerto Village, Turi, Sleman District, Yogyakarta Special Region, had panicked and scattered outside the house during the phreatic eruption on Friday (11/05/2018), at 07.30 WIB.
"People previously heard a roar, some thought the sound of a helicopter, but it was about five minutes long and after that there was a thick and large white smoke rising up from the Merapi crater," said Donokerto resident Rony Arya.
According to him, the panicked residents were evacuated to the nearest refugee camp to anticipate the things that are not desirable.
"But after no subsequent eruptions, residents eventually returned to their homes," he said.
He said, the direction of smoke phreatic eruption to the west side of Merapi.
"There was a long, thin ash ray there were grains of sand carried up here and the clouds became dark like cloudy rain," he said.
According to him, after almost an hour no more subsequent eruptions, but there is an appeal from the village apparatus not to be in an area less than three kilometers from the peak of Merapi.
