Rector of the University of Riau Declaration Against Radicalism-Terrorism

INDUSTRY.co.id - Pekanbaru - A number of private university rectors in Riau Province declare to jointly fight against radicalism and terrorism on campus.
The declaration took place on the campus of the University of Lancang Kuning (Unilak), in Pekanbaru City, on Friday (8/6) night. Present in this declaration, namely Unilak Dr. Hasnati SH MH, Rector of Universitas Islam Riau Prof.Syafrinaldi. Then Rector of Pasir Pangaraian University, Kuantan Singingi University, UNIRRAB representative, STIKES Hangtuah, STMIK, Persada Bunda University and representatives from university leaders who are members of Association of Indonesian Private Universities (APTISI) Riau.
The implementation of this declaration was also witnessed by Riau Police Chief Inspector General Pol Nandang, Commander of Korem 031 / Wirabima Brig. Gen. Sonny Aprianto, and Head of Regional Intelligence Agency (Kabinda) Riau Province Marsma TNI Rakhman Haryari, Riau provincial representative, lecturers and more than 200 students from various private universities in Riau.
"Unilak became the first private university to contact me to declare a rejection of radicalism and terrorism, I really appreciate it," said Riau Region APTISI Chairman Zainal Abidin.
Unilak Rector Dr. Hasnati explained the declaration was made of concerns that occurred in the environment of the University of Riau some time ago, which turned out to have been infiltrated by suspected terrorists. He hopes that this declaration can prevent radicalism and terrorism from spreading and entering the world of education.
"In the future we are both creating students who are the seeds of gold generation to defend the country," he said.
Riau Police Chief Inspector General Pol Nandang said the education sector, especially universities, play an important role in maintaining security and fighting terrorism through its role in educational institutions.
"Security by educating the nation is in line, and campus safety is the responsibility of campus and police managers at the forefront because it involves security," he said.
The declaration was followed by a short dialogue between the students and Forkopimda, and was closed. At the end of the event the students and other participants signed the signature as a commitment to prevent radicalism and terrorism in the campus environment. (Ant)
