INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - Observer of Middle East issues from the University of Indonesia (UI) Doctor Yon Machmudi said the visit of President Yahya Cholil Staquf's Advisory Board member to Israel clearly hurt the feelings of the grieving Palestinians.
To Between in Jakarta, Wednesday (13/6/2018) Yon who is also Chairman of the Study Program of Middle East and Islam UI said that Yahya Staquf should cancel the visit in honor of government policies and support of the people of Indonesia against Palestine.
Earlier, members of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres) Yahya Cholil Staquf met Israel's invitation to speak at the AJC (American Jewish Comittee) Global Forum in Jerusalem, Israel, Sunday (10/6).
"Indonesia's stance on rejecting the sovereignty of the state of Israel has not changed and as a citizen should reinforce that attitude, with Israel going to benefit far more and be claimed as the success of the country's diplomacy," Yon said.
He said that Yahya's visit was counterproductive to the Indonesian government's policy of addressing the Palestinian issue.
"The firm stance on the RI postponing the visa of the Israeli entourage in the past few days as the government's concern over the death toll of Palestinian civilians will be countered by the visit, moreover, he is carrying the name of the presidency," he said.
