LIPI: Single Candidate for Election of Unhealthy Democracy

INDUSTRY.co.id - Serang - Senior researcher of the Center for Political Research-LIPI Prof. Dr. Siti Zuhro considers the emergence of a single candidate in the 2018 Serendak elections including three areas in Banten, an unhealthy democracy and not educate people in democracy.

"The emergence of this sole candidate is the failure of political parties in the regeneration process," said Siti Zuhro after attending the halalbihalal KAHMI Banten in Serang, Wednesday (4/7/2018)

She said the political parties should provide education to the community healthy democratic way. Do not let the people a single candidate who has no other choice to become a candidate for leaders in the area.

"Political parties as a pillar of democracy and state assets must show the quality," said Zuhro.

According to her, the presence of a single candidate in three areas in Banten in the elections simultaneously in 2018 is an unfavorable indication in democracy.

Therefore, it is not only for political parties but also for the society to participate in 'saying' that in a democracy it cannot bring up only one person or the monopoly of a particular candidate's power, but the community must be given the choices of the candidate's leader.

"Not only political parties, but the public should speakout, should also say that there are options," said Zuhro who is also Presedium of the National Assembly KAHMI.

The four regions in Banten Province held simultaneous elections on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 namely Serang City, Tangerang City, Serang Regency and Lebak Regency, three of which were followed by single candidates or opponents of empty squares.

Three pilkada in Banten followed by single candidate pair or opponent empty box that is Lebak regency followed by single candidate of Iti Octavia Jayabaya and Ade Sumardi which carried by party of Nasdem, Golkar, PDI P, Democrat, PAN, PPP, Hanura, Gerindra, PKS and PKB.

Then Tangerang District followed by a single candidate Ahmed Zaki Iskandar and Mad Romli carried by the Party Nasem, Golkar, Democrat, PAN, PPP, PBB, PKPI, PDIP, Hanura, Gerindra, PKS and PKB.

Furthermore, the election in Tangerang City was also followed by the sole candidate of Arief R Wismansyah and Sachrudin who carried by Democrat, Golkar, PDIP, PKB, Gerindra, PPP, PAN, PKS, Hanura and NasDem. The three single candidates win against empty boxes in a vote in their respective regions.

While one other area of ​​Serang City followed by three candidate pairs, Vera Nurlaela and Nurhasan who carried Golkar Party, Gerindra, PDI P, Democrat, PKB, Nasdem, PKPI and PBB. Then serial number two Samsul Hidayat-Rohman from the individual path and serial number three Syafrudin-Subadri Usuludin that carried PPP, PKS, Hanura and PAN.
