Surabaya Becomes the City of E-commerce in Indonesia

INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, - Google search site in collaboration with research institute Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung (GfK) conducted a research entitled "Shopping Behavior in Indonesia". Results from the research turned out Surabaya ranked first as an e-commerce city.

Country Industry Head of Google Indonesia Henky Prihatna explained, the results of research from Google and Gfk show that online shopping activities have become a common activity in Indonesia.

But apparently, Jakarta as the center of Indonesia's economy is not ranked first as an e-commerce city. The e-commerce city is occupied by Surabaya. The city of Heroes was ranked first with 71 percent. It Followed then with Medan with percentagei 68 percent.

Meanwhile, Jakarta is currently only a third e-commerce city with a percentage of 66 percent successively then Bandung with 63 percent percentage, Semarang with 59 percent percentage, and Makassar with 52 percent percentage.

"In terms of time using the platform, Surabaya also outperformed Jakarta.A time spent in a day reached 5.8 hours, while Jakarta only 4.7 hours," he explained last weekend.

The research also buys solutions for sellers or business actors in e-commerce. Here are the tips: 

  1. Make sure product brands are relevant and target online consumers all over Indonesia.  
  2. Establish close relationships with consumers in order to transform loyal consumers into ambassadors of products through loyalty and customer promotion programs. 
  3. Optimize your app or mobile site. This is because nowadays a lot of searching via mobile device.
  4. Understand what your customers want and show the benefits of online shopping clearly on sites and apps because not everyone knows the benefits of online shopping.
