President Jokowi Issues Presidential Decree of the 2023 ASEAN Chair National Committee

INDUSTRY.co.id - RI President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 5 of 2023 concerning the National Committee for Indonesian Chair in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The formation of the national committee aims to optimize the preparation and implementation of Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023 by involving all relevant stakeholders.

In the regulations that can be accessed on the JDIH Cabinet Secretariat website, it is stated that the national committee has the following duties:

First, planning, preparing, coordinating and organizing a series of activities, both in substance as well as technical and logistical aspects, in order to support the implementation of the duties and obligations of the President of the Republic of Indonesia as Chair of ASEAN in 2023.

Second, preparing and establishing a work plan and budget for the preparation and implementation of a series of activities for Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.

Third, prepare and organize the activities of the 42nd ASEAN Summit and 43rd ASEAN Summit as well as a series of other ASEAN meetings as well as possible so that they can run safely, smoothly and in an orderly manner.

Fourth, cooperate with other countries, international organizations, regional and other agencies for the smooth implementation of the activities of the Summit and other series of ASEAN meetings.

Fifth, monitoring , evaluating, and reporting on the implementation of Indonesia's Chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023.

"Implementation of Indonesia's Chairmanship series in ASEAN in 2023, consisting of high-level conferences; ministerial level meetings and central bank governors; senior official level meetings; working group level meeting ; side events programme ; and a series of other ASEAN meetings and activities,” stated in the Presidential Decree.

The national committee is led by an advisor, namely the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, who are tasked with providing directions, suggestions and considerations to the national committee in the framework of Indonesia's Chair in ASEAN in 2023.

In carrying out their duties, the director is assisted by the person in charge of the field as well as the assistance and partnership team. There are eight persons in charge of the field, namely:
1. Person in charge of the substance of the Pillars of the ASEAN Economic Community, namely the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam)
2. Person in charge of the substance of the pillars of the ASEAN Economic Community, namely the Coordinating Minister for the Economy
3. Person in charge Responsible for the Substance Sector of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Pillars, namely the
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK).
5. Person in charge of Communication, Media and Public Relations, namely the Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo)
6. Person in charge of Summit Implementation and Logistics, namely the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg)
7. Person in charge of Side Events , namely the Minister of Business Entities State Owned (BUMN)
8. Person in Charge of Security, namely the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI)

Each person in charge has a number of members. Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) and Deputy for Cabinet Work Support (DKK), Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab) are members of the Summit Implementation and Logistics Division.

The Assistance and Partnership Team, namely Wishnutama Kusubandio and Deputy Minister of BUMN II.

Confirmed in the Presidential Decree, the national committee in carrying out its duties cooperates and/or coordinates with ministries/agencies, local governments, the private sector, and other related parties.

" The working period of the national committee starts from the date of enactment of this presidential decree until December 31, 2023," emphasized in Presidential Decree 5/2023 which was stipulated by President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on March 31, 2023.
