INDUSTRY.co.id - Bengkulu - Bengkulu Province held the first triathlon event in Indonesia starting from the warship KRI Banda Aceh 593 on July 22, 2017.
"Even this is probably also the first time in the world," said Chairman of the Committee Bengkulu Triathlon 2017 Fajar Rusdianto in Bengkulu, Saturday (15/07/2017)
The man who also served as Commander of Bengkulu Navy Base said this multi-branch sports event was attended by nearly 160 participants from within and abroad.
He said all participants will be staying overnight at KRI Banda Aceh which has been leaning on the waters of Bengkulu because the next day they will do the activity.
A number of national athletes who will participate in the event include former national swimmer Richard Sambera and women's champion Sungailiat Triathlon 2017 Sarah Virginia Costeira.
Dawn said it focused on security when swimming activities as far as 1.5 km took place in the waters of the Indian Ocean.
Waves in these waters are difficult to predict so that the committee took all parties to participate in the success of the event, both in terms of security and safety.
"We are cooperating with the TNI, Polri, Basarnas and other agencies to succeed this event, we also insure each participant," he said.
He also hopes Bengkulu Triathlon becomes an annual event considering the enthusiastic participants so eager to follow the race with prizes of almost Rp200 million.
Dawn hopes the public to understand if some of the main routes in Bengkulu City will be closed several hours for the smoothness of the event.
