Local Government Langkat North Sumatra Rice Self-Sufficiency 332,985 Ton

INDUSTRY.co.id - Langkat - Agriculture and Food Security Agency of Langkat, North Sumatra, noted that the region succeeded in self-sufficiency of rice reached 332,985 tons and there was an increase from the previous year reached 83,472 tons.
This was conveyed by Head of Production Division of Agriculture Department of Food Security Langkat Yusfik Helmi, in Stabat, Monday (26/2/2018).
Yusfik Helmi explains, if in 2016 the area can be self-sufficient rice reaches 249,513 tons, then for 2017 self-sufficiency reached 332,985 tons and quite high with the rate of growth population 2.30 percent per year.
As for the surplus of rice, the area reached 194,902 tons, the rice produced by farmers is also widely sent to meet the market or demand from outside the region such as Binjai and Medan.
"Obviously this condition is very satisfactory to maintain rice self-sufficiency in North Sumatra, this success encourages us to continue to encourage rice farmers to achieve success can be maintained and improved in 2018," he said.
Yusfik also conveyed with the condition that Langkat surplus rice as much as 143.88 percent while for self-sufficiency reached 243.88 percent and it is certainly very large.
To that end, it continues to encourage farmers to spur cultivation because the government through the Department of Horticulture and North Sumatra Food Security has been targeting Langkat for 2018 with 100,000 hectares of rice planted.
"There is an increase in rice cultivation area of 7,000 hectares from the previous 93,000 hectares and this increase should we encourage farmers to continue to support this program," he told the media crew.
In addition, of course, various facilities must be considered such as the provision of superior rice seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, including the completion of the construction of a reservoir that can irrigate rice fields of 10,000 hectares for four districts namely Stabat, Secanggang, Wampu and Hinai.
"If the construction of this reservoir can be realized soon then the area of Langkat planting will increase and the production will also clearly increase," he said.
