INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta - The Press Council hopes the death of media journalist Progress of the People, Muhammad Yusuf (42) at Penitentiary Class IIB Kotabaru, South Kalimantan on Sunday (10/6/2018) is handled and completed as transparently as possible by law.

In a press statement in Jakarta on Monday (12/6/2018) regarding the death of Yusuf, the Press Council expressed deep condolences over the death of Joseph, who had been detained since mid-April.

Related to the information that Joseph's detention was at the recommendation of the Press Council, it was submitted that the Press Council never received complaints from those who felt harmed by Yusuf's news.

Mentioned the Press Council was involved in the case after Kapabaru Police Chief AKBP Suhasto sent a letter requesting expert information on 28 March 2018.

The letter was followed by the arrival of three Kotabaru Police investigators to the Press Council on March 29, 2018. The investigators requested expert information from Sabam Leo Batubara which the Press Council has appointed to provide information.

Investigators requested expert information on two news stories on the March 5, 2018 "progressrakyat.co.id" portal entitled "The Community of the Mediterranean Sea the Truth over the Actions of PT MSAM Jonit PT Inhutani II and the same media news edition March 27, 2018 entitled" Pulau Laut Communities Regent and DPRD Kotabaru Expel Invaders ".

In the statements set forth in the minutes of examination (BAP), Press Council's press expert assessed the two reports were not test information, unbalanced and contained judgmental opinions.

In addition the resource persons are unclear and not credible. The case is a journalistic case whose settlement is done in the Press Council and is done through the mechanism of the right of reply and apology.

Investigators say they have sought the testimony of witnesses against Yusuf. Investigators have also made a number of other negative news outside of the two news stories they carry.

On April 2 and 3, 2018, investigators returned to the Press Council carrying 21 additional news which, according to investigators, were written by Yusuf. Four news stories are posted on the portal "progressrakyat.co.id" and 17 others on "berantasnews.com".

Mentioned the news is not in accordance with technical standards and journalistic ethics because it does not test information, unbalanced and mostly contain judgmental opinions.

It also indicates bad faith. The aggrieved party can take legal action.
