INDUSTRY.co.id - Kulonprogo - Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the Right to Food Hilal Elver in his recent visit to Indonesia, had the opportunity to see firsthand the Sustainable Food House (KRPL) developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, KRPL managed by KWT Seruni Menoreh Indah in Sidoharjo Village, District Samigaluh, Kulonprogo Regency.

"This UN envoy visit adds to our spirit to work better, and pass it on to other groups," Puji Wanti said when asked to comment on Kulonprogo, Friday (20/4/2018).
According to Puji Wanti, KWT which has been established since 2009 has been doing yard utilization activities since the first, and the more rapid development after the initiation of the Ministry of Agriculture through optimizing the utilization of the yard through Sustainable Food House (KRPL).
"What we plant in the yard is vegetables such as mustard greens, kale, spinach, chili, tomatoes, but there are also farm animals such as chickens and goats," he explained. Not only that, He revealed that the commodity of tubers is also cultivated in the garden or fields.
In not less than one year, since becoming beneficiary of KRPL activity in 2017, members of his group can meet the needs of food and nutrition of the family from their home yard.
"With the utilization of this yard we can reduce spending on food for about Rp 5000, - to Rp 10.000, - per day" he said. Even recognized Puji Wanti, pekarang land use activities can provide income with the sale of vegetables and livestock (chicken) with a price range of Rp 100,000, - to Rp 200,000, - per month.
Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Vice Regent Kulon Progo Sutedjo explained that previously Sidoharjo Village entered in food insecurity areas and high stunting figures.
"Through this activity (KRPL) Desa Sidoharjo recorded as a food-resistant area and a decrease in stunting figures" he said.
Sutedjo further revealed, Kulonprogo Regency Government continues to be committed in the effort to realize the resilience and independence of food.
With Motto Bela and Beli, Kulonprogo Regency Government fosters a spirit of independence and awareness to the community that they are non-consumer producers.

This raises the admiration of UN rapporteur Hilal Elver in this visit to suggest that he is very pleased and captivated by the spirit of working together in a group that is still awake, even though he considers the tradition is now fading.
"It is important for the government to spread this to other countries (the use of yard and spirit of gotong royong)" he said.
Hilal also admitted Indonesia is a country that is fortunate enough to have fertile land, good water, supportive climate, and adequate human resources.
