Suwandi said the process of cultivation and governance of onion continues to be improved and improve for example through the use of seeds from superior bulbs and the introduction of eco-friendly cultivation process.

"Brebes is preparing the seeds to be supplied to West Java," he said.

In the downstream aspect, continued Suwandi, Kementan developed the pasta industry, the introduction of processed onion chips, the use of storage technology and some of the products exported.

"Now is preparing to export to Thailand in July-August," he said.

"The handling of upstream approaches to the Area by encouraging exports and improving the welfare of farmers is in line with the direction of Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman," he said.

Furthermore, Head of Sub Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Brebes Regency, Sodikin when accompanying the visit said every year Brebes planted 30 to 35 thousand hectares of onions with production of 300 to 350 thousand tons. Routine harvest occurs in June-August. In June, the harvest of 3,324 hectares and in July will harvest 4,607 hectares

"The June harvest with productivity of 10 tons per hectare yields 33 thousand tons and July 46 thousand tons. June-July, on average a day can supply 1,295 tons, to serve the entire territory of Indonesia. For example, DKI Jakarta only needs 90 to 100 tons of days, "he said.

Sodikin mentions the center of onion in the District of Larangan, Wanasari and Brebes. This season is better than before.

"Alhamdulillah Ramadan and Eid are abundant supply and prices in the farmers are stable," he explained.

Meanwhile, Benny, an entrepreneur of Brebes onion PT HRD, said it has prepared the export plan to Thailand 2000 tons in July - August 2018. The reason is in Thailand is not harvest.

"Onion we can go to Thailand that month, because Thailand is not harvest, the price is good and can be competitive with Indian onions," he explained.

In addition to Brebes, the central areas of onion namely Sumbawa and Bima, NTB will also harvest. Head of Commodity Data Subdivision, Center for Data and Information Systems Kementan, Akbar Yasin reveals the total area of ​​onion harvest in Sumbawa Regency of 3,000 hectares and Bima 5,000 hectares.

"In June the harvested area in Sumbawa reaches 2,000 hectares and Bima 3,000 hectares," said Akbar, who is currently reviewing onion crops in Sumbawa and Bima.
