INDUSTRY.co.id - Jakarta, Secretary- General of the Indonesia-Korea Friendship Association, Teguh Santosa welcomes the affirmation of Korean President Moon Jaein who does not want the war to hit the Korean Peninsula again.
Teguh said the statement by South Korea's new leader could ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and the Asia-Pacific region.
"President Moon's statement implies his commitment to maintaining peace, it should be appreciated, after President Moon was considered more aligned to the United States during his visit to Washington DC and met President Trump," said Teguh in a statement to editor of Industry.co.id from Beijing, People's Republic of China, Sunday (8/20).
According to him, President Moon is one of the expectations that the Korean Peninsula has to avoid war. President Moon was judged to inherit the spirit and political approach of two former South Korean presidents, Kim Dae Jung and Roh Moo Hyun, who put forward the dialogue in the face of North Korea.
It is fitting that South Korea follows up President Moon's declaration by reducing the scale of the United States military exercise that will be re-established in the near future.
"The tensions on the Korean peninsula are the fruit of colonialization and the Cold War of the past, the people of Korea were divided by the interests of the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc of the time, in which each bloc made every effort to maintain or even extend its influence. Politics of containment," he explained.
After the Soviet Union broke up in late 1991, there was a change of battle map in the region. However, following the recent economic and military uprisings of the People's Republic of China it seems that the constellation of battles of interest on the Korean Peninsula has entered a new phase.
True and hundreds of Korean Peninsula peace activists for a week from August 12 to 18 are in Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, to attend a series of meetings and activities that essentially encourage the North to continue actively maintaining peace in the region.
"The Korean peninsula is now squeezed by US and PRC interests," he said.
The United States places heavy defense systems, the High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Terminal in South Korea to ward off possible attacks from North Korea. But the placement of THAAD actually exacerbated the problem and made North Korea increasingly vigilant. The PRC is also anxious to suspect the other purpose behind the presence of THAAD.
Connecting doctoral students from the Department of International Relations Padjadjaran University, North Korea has the right to defend themselves from the worst possible threats to their sovereignty.
The development of North Korean weaponry that has been in talks and raising fears lately is the realization of self-defense.
From various events on the global stage, Teguh added, peace seems to only happen when there is a balance of power, both economically and militarily. If the balance of power is not achieved, where there is a very powerful state and some are very powerless, at one point there will be occupation and occupation, both economically and militarily as well.
"North Korea's weapons development is not something that is suddenly driven by the desire to attack other countries, it is their response to the increasingly serious US pressure in the Trump era," Teguh said.
He added that he had repeatedly questioned his friends in Pyongyang, and it was answered that North Korea had no desire to attack South Korea, but simply wanted to defend the sovereignty of the US-launched attacks on their country.
Teguh also repeated his message that the best way to end the tension on the Korean Peninsula is not to attack North Korea and stop provocations including those that are verbal. Then ended a ceasefire agreement signed at the end of the 1953 Korean War and turned it into a peace treaty.
"In this conflict study called change the negative peace to a positive peace," he said again.
After the peace agreement is reached then the Korean Peninsula can enter a new phase, whether the two Koreas become one again, or remain the two Koreans with the improvement of constructive relationships.
